A basic blend with a little funkiness, a little sherry, and some coastal influences. Good value for the money. I do like this. But it doesn't really have a distinct identity that would make me come back to this in a hurry.

Tasting notes
Eye
Looks artifically coloured. The colour is a deeper shade than the constituent parts are likely to provide. Thin legs. Not surprising for a 40% ABV blend.
Nose
Sweetness, sherry, almonds and vanilla, light honey, diluted orchard fruits, orange peel with a bitter pithy edge. Green tomatoes and a copper note. A little cracked pepper. A hint of salinity. Husky grain notes; a little like dry straw. There's a hint of bacon fat, and also a bit of antifreeze, rubber and dust—which, to me, suggests some Islay influence. I now this is a blend, but it seems a bit mixed up.
SCORE: 17/25

Taste
Soft mouthfeel. There's a bit of funkiness here mixed in with the sherry. The peat comes through on the palette more than it does on the nose. A little saline and seaweed. Definite coastal influence. Is there some Caol Ila in here? There's a sweetness like custard. It doesn't need water, but let's see what a drop does to it: Much softer. Sherry note becomes more prominent. The funkiness recedes into the background. Caramel comes through quite strongly. A touch of water seems to give it a bit of order.

Finish
Warm finish for 40%, indicating young spirit. Caramel and brown sugar. Full-bodied finish that takes up but not complex. Grainy cereal with some slight leafyness. A touch of smoke. A bit of chocolate, cream, cocao. Some bitterness to complement the sweetness. Saltyness, herbyness, some spice, and coffee.
SCORE: 17/25

Overall
It's not bad for £23.50. I'd pick this over Johnnie Walker Red, any day. But having tasted the Wine Society Speyside Blended Malt a few days ago for £20 a bottle, I would pass over the Adelphi for that without a second thought. This got an extra point added to the taste because a dab of water helped unravel the mess.
